This glossary contains basic fundamental words in a lot of sport that people can use when talking about sport in general.

- A group of players forming one side in a competitive game or sport.
- Example: Have you seen the match of basket-ball yesterday? This team played really well.

- noun
- one of the marks or numbers that shows your score in a game or sport
- Example: The Bulls of Chicago are in advance of three point against the Golden state

- noun
- an ancient Panhellenic festival held every fourth year and made up of contests of sports, music, and literature with the victor's prize a crown of wild olive.
- Example: We might think that "Naxos" in Cantos 2, 24, and 78 is the place of that name beneath Taormina, the site (lately and partially excavated) of the earliest Greek colony in Sicily, and thereafter the port whence the teams from all the Sicilian Greek cities made a ceremonial departure to compete in the olympic Games; but the Annotated Index is doubtless right to identify Naxos, on the contrary, with an island in the Aegean.

- noun
- a cup or other decorative object awarded as a prize for a victory or success.
- Example: Kahlo does not appear in the work, her Tehuana costume hangs empty in the centre of the composition, suspended between a toilet bowl and a golfing trophy.

- noun
- a game played on a field between two teams of 11 players each with the object to propel a round ball into the opponent's goal by kicking or by hitting it with any part of the body except the hands and arms.
- Example: The reality is often closer to that memorably described by David Lodge: occasionally one feels, as a teacher, rather like a soccer referee who, having blown his whistle for the kick - off, finds the players disconcertingly reluctant to make a move and is reduced to dribbling the ball himself furiously from end to end, scoring brilliant goals in undefended nets, while the motionless players look curiously on.

- a game played by two teams of five players who score points by throwing a large ball through an open net hanging from a metal ring
- Example: Do you want to play a game of basket-ball?

- noun
- Hockey is a sport in which two teams play against each other by trying to manoeuvre a ball or a puck into the opponent's goal using a hockey stick. There are many types of hockey such as bandy, field hockey, ice hockey and rink hockey.

- a person who is proficient in sports and other forms of physical exercise.
- Example: For example, chartered physiotherapists, who are frequently the first of the health care team to see an injured athlete, are in an excellent position to prevent the development of chronic oedema which can markedly interfere with the later stages of treatment, lead to a poor rehabilitation outcome and increase the potential for recurrence of injury.

- a membership organization that provides a range of facilities designed to improve and maintain physical fitness and health.
- Example: I haven't been to the gym in a while I should go back before I gain some weight.

- noun
- a level area surrounded by seats for spectators, in which sports, entertainments, and other public events are held.
- Example: The next match that we will have will be in the biggest arena of Montreal

- noun
- A fan or fanatic, sometimes also termed an enthusiast, is a person who exhibits strong interest or admiration for something or somebody, such as a celebrity or a sport or a sports team.
- Example: I am literally your biggest fan.

- the sport or practice of fighting with the fists, especially with padded gloves in a roped square ring according to prescribed rules
- Example: Are you really into boxing if so would you mind sparing with me a little?

- noun
- a game in which two or four players strike a ball with rackets over a net stretched across a court. The usual form (originally called lawn tennis ) is played with a felt-covered hollow rubber ball on a grass, clay, or artificial surface.

- noun
- a game with rackets in which a shuttlecock is played back and forth across a net.

- Golf
- noun
- a game played on a large open-air course, in which a small hard ball is struck with a club into a series of small holes in the ground, the object being to use the fewest possible strokes to complete the course.
- Example: I am not a fan of golf at all.

- noun
- a game for two teams, usually of six players, in which a large ball is hit by hand over a high net, the aim being to score points by making the ball reach the ground on the opponent's side of the court.
- Example: I don't play volleyball because my teammates are so bad.

- noun
- a ball game played between two teams of nine on a field with a diamond-shaped circuit of four bases. It is played chiefly in the US, Canada, Latin America, and East Asia.

- the game of table tennis.
- Example: Ping pong seem like a fun sport to play.

- american football
- noun
- a form of team game played with an oval ball on a field marked out as a gridiron. Points are scored mainly through touchdowns and field goals. Each side has eleven players on the field at any time.
- Example: American football is the sport that I used to watch the most with my father on the TV.
